Racing Resumes!

The Tour of Utah begins tomorrow.  Billed as‘America’s Toughest Stage Race’, it covers 658 km with nearly 9100 metres of climbing over 6 days of racing.  The team brings many cards to play, including climbers Pat McCarty and Lucas Euser, and experienced all-rounders Bruno Langlois and Francois Parisien.  Watch for altitude-ready Flavio De Luna to be a young rider contender. Andrew Randell, Simon Lambert-Lemay and Ryan Roth round out the roster.  Live web casting will be available via the official event web site.
Last weekend, the Sparkassen Giro marked Guillaume Boivin’s return to racing. Although not the best day for the Spiders, with crashes taking their toll, the guys rode well against a ProTour-laden field.

Festival d'art urbain de Repentigny

I have been filming a bunch for a video I'm going to release in the fall, and collecting the scraps to make another web video.

But the other weekend I was in Montreal at the RISE HQ, I did a comp in a small town just out side Montreal and I took frist place. I was super excited because it wasn't really a MTB comp it was more BMX.

Here's a video of the comp if you want to check it out!

I had a big jam at my house and had about 40 of my closest friends over to ride my jumps. I had some live bands over and stuff. It was perty crazy! I gave away a bunch of prizes and stuff too!

And other then that I have been hanging out with kids at joyride, and riden as much as possible, and I getting some things lined up, like on the 15th I'm going to be in Manitoba for a week or so, and it looks like Sept 9th I'm going to be in a music video for a new progressive rock band called Syrix, that should be super cool, and in between that hopefully I can get some more stuff on the web.

Oh and a new Promo Vid just came out!!

Check it out!

Easton Havoc components review

" This year Easton introduced Haven bars, stems, and seat posts to go along with the high power wheels intro’d last year. Not only does this allow riders to put together a cohesive look for custom builds but the company is also building on the high quality finishes and materials (uni-directional carbon and Easton aluminum) found on the wheelsets. The upshot: matched graphics and anodizing plus even more ultra-precise machine work. "

" On the trails I really enjoy the feel of carbon. As stiff as it can be, a properly designed fiber-oriented bar really takes the sting out of the hits and these Haven components are no exception. ... ... When conditions get rough I have ample control over the front wheel without going over. "

" I really love the fact that even on those long rides my hands don’t get fatigued thanks to the combination of the natural vibration dampening of the bar and optimal bend. Over the duration of the test the bars, stem, and seat post never came out of adjustment or slipped in any way. Even with rocks and debis flying about, the finish never got damaged despite an over the bar experience (or two).  I did a bar tap or two on some saplings on a tight trail but nothing that caused too much alarm. The wider bars are definitely a good choice for an amazing amount of steering control. "

Ian Killick

June was another busy month for me. John Gibson came out to Kamloops for the third time this year and we had another very successful photoshoot, turning out shots that Bike Magazine has claimed the rights to. So I'm hoping to see a few of those shots in print soon.

This week I am coaching the freeride camp at Sun Peaks along with Agassiz, Hunter, Sherrard and a few others. I wasn't quite sure what to expect coming into it but it has actually been a lot of fun so far.

Apart from shooting, and coaching camps I have also been working on dialling in some tricks for Crankworx Colorado which is coming up pretty soon. We have had a few fresh new trick jumps built in the bike ranch so practicing tricks has been a lot easier than usual. It's about to get even easier because the bike ranch is getting a foam pit!! The pit is taking shape already and should be rideable in less than a week! I've also continued filming with Matt Miles (Silvia Films) for their full length movie.

Apart from shooting video we've gotten a few good stills. That prettymuch sums up the last month of my life, I look forward to hearing back from you.

Danice news

It's been a bit of a slow start to the summer weather wise but my M9 has been hot all season!  I can't believe how amazing it feels on every single course that I've ridden so far.  My most recent race was Canada Cup #2 in Bromont, a very fun course that I've done a couple times before.  I spent a fair amount of time reflecting on the weekend afterwards and put those thoughts into my Canadian DH Girls blog which you can read here.

This is my "I crashed a lot" look!

I'm just home again from a trip back out east, this time to Toronto.  After coming home from Bromont I found out I'd made the cut from an audition I'd done a week prior so spent a week in Toronto doing some filming for a commercial.  Thankfully I got to ride my bike for it, so although the trails there were not quite like the ones at home it was still fun to be out there riding my bike! The commercial isn't due to come out till October but I'll be sure to let you know when it does!

Now that I'm home I'm getting ready for a 2 week trip to Panorama for Nationals and the final Canada Cup race.

Thanks for all your support so far this season!  My new helmet is great, and my gloves, stem and bars have been holding out perfectly!

Profile Design Canta SS drop bar

" Profile’s Canta SS Drop Bar makes the reach to the levers easy even for those of us with relatively small hands. The decreased reach comes as a result of the tight radius of the drop; reach measures 70mm while the drop measures 125mm. The all carbon-fiber bar weighs a scant 192 grams (12g lighter than advertised); not many bars break the 200g barrier. "

" The Canta SS features a flattened area on the front of the bar tops to help hide the cable routing, keeping the overall bar diameter (once wrapped with tape) to a minimum. Again, for people with smaller hands, this is ideal. "

" Carbon isn’t cheap though. The Canta SS carries a suggested retail of $340, but unless you’re prone to crashing, it’ll be money well spent. "

Beaumont - championnats canadiens U23
