The All-new BMC granfondo GF01 bike!

BMC is presenting his all-new endurance series bike: the granfondo GF01!

Right in time for the big test at Paris-Roubaix where Alessandro Ballan (BMC Racing Team) end up third on a photo-finish finale for the five-up sprint for second. Ultimately, it was determined Sébastien Turgot (Team Europcar) edged out Ballan after the former world road champion sprinted from the back of the group on his new BMC granfondo GF01 with 200 meters to go. "I'm not fast in the sprint and I don't have the history in the velodrome, so it was hard for me," Ballan said.

Thor Hushovd and Taylor Phinney respectively finished 14th and 15th.

Follow Raelert brothers story

K-Swiss Announces First-Ever $1M Triathletes Challenge
SportsOneSource Media Posted: 3/23/2011

K-Swiss's CEO Steve Nichols has pledged to award $1 million to brothers Andreas and Michael Raelert if they reach their goal of finishing first and second at the Ironman World Championship on October 8, 2011. The bonus would mark the largest sum ever awarded in the competition's 33-year history, putting the payout in the range of such prestigious events as both Wimbledon and the Masters.

The event Kona, Hawaii covers a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run.

The German-born Raelert brothers, just four years apart in age, currently stand as two of the world's leading triathletes. Both are reigning champions: Michael is the back-to-back 2009 and 2010 Ironman 70.3 World Champion and Andreas is the 2010 Ironman European Champion. However, Michael has never raced in Kona, or any race Andreas has entered out of admiration for his older brother. Inspired by this kinship and dedication that defines the sport of triathlon, K-Swiss is pledging to help push the envelope in the sport by launching this once-in-a-lifetime challenge to reward the athleticism and drive that is relatively unrecognized in the sports world.

"Last year at Kona, I asked Michael why he wasn't competing. I was moved by his response - that ever since he was a child, his brother Andreas has been his hero, and he couldn't race against him," said Steven Nichols, CEO of K-Swiss. "Michael said that the only way he would compete against Andreas was if they finished in unison. This really shows the world what the triathlon community is all about - we hope to meet them at the finish line in Kona with a check in hand to award that dedication."

Through a grassroots effort, the company aims to raise awareness for the sport of triathlon and its passionate community of athletes. The Ironman series is an unparalleled endurance event in which athletes must complete a 140.6-mile grueling course: a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run. Throughout Ironman's summer season, the brothers will race in competitions forging their way to the World Championships in Kona.

"We feel that the most grueling one-day sporting event in the world deserves more attention than it has," said Erik Vervloet, K-Swiss vice president of sports marketing. "Kona is nearly impossible to win on your own, but two brothers accomplishing this together would be a game-changing moment for the sport of triathlon."

K-Swiss will support the challenge and encourage people to follow the Raelerts on their journey to the finish through a season-long social media campaign and via the official K-Swiss triathlon Tumblr: www.kswiss.com/triathlon.

New professional team on the World Cup circuit

BMC Mountainbike Racing Team ready for action
Grenchen, Switzerland, March 2, 2011

The Swiss bike manufacturer BMC has now also been involved in professional mountain bike sport since January 1. The BMC Mountainbike Racing Team has set its sights on World Cup glory with a top international line-up. Established names such as the reigning German Champion Moritz Milatz and the former road racer Alexandre Moos are at the vanguard of a young team with ambitious goals.

More than virtually any other brand, BMC is inseparably associated with professional cycle racing. The Grenchen-based company has long been a synonym for success in competitive road cycling. In 2010 the BMC Racing Team notched up impressive successes with World Champion Cadel Evans in the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. The Swiss company is now rediscovering its origins – mountain bike sport – and pinning its hopes on a long-term, deep-rooted team strategy.

“Our mountain bikes have been of a world-class standard for years. We now want to consolidate and refine our product development work with feedback from professional cross country sport, and of course demonstrate our expertise,” remarked Mike Hürlimann, CEO of BMC Trading AG. “The BMC Mountainbike Racing Team is the tip of the iceberg of our long-term involvement in mountain bike sport. We want that involvement to be an enduring partnership, so as well as the two Swiss teams Fischer and Texner we have also set up a U23 US Development Team to offer riders prospects also at junior or development level. Anyone who races on a BMC should do so in the reassuring knowledge that with the right performance, they can look forward to a professional career with us,” added Frank Schreiner, Head of Marketing at BMC.
The five-man team is embarking on its first season under the sporting leadership of Alexandre Moos. “It is a gigantic prospect for me to be able to participate in shaping the commitment to mountain biking for BMC. My experience as a professional cyclist is bound to help the young riders,” explained Moos. David Chassot will be in charge of its management.

The 2008 Olympic athlete Moritz Milatz is looking forward to wearing the BMC shirt. “For me, the BMC team is an ideal group with the right background. Living in Freiburg, I am also very close and will be able to integrate myself well. After being plagued by injury in 2010, I am truly motivated to give it my all in 2011. The materials and the environment are perfect.” The team’s other riders include Patrik Gallati, U23 World Cup runner-up and European Championship runner-up, and Julien Taramarcaz. Balz Weber will join Alex Moos in the Marathon. Their first joint race wearing BMC Mountainbike Racing Team colors will take place at the end of March in South Africa in the toughest mountain bike race in the world, the Cape Epic.

The team will be competing on the BMC models Teamelite 01 (hardtail) and fourstroke 01 (full suspension), which hit the trail with BMC’s supreme quality standards of trailblazing innovations.

BMC Mountainbike Racing Team passe à l'attaque
Granges/Suisse, 2 mars 2011

BMC enters the triathlon world with a bang

Communiqué en français ci-bas.

Sponsor partnership with the world's most successful siblings, Andreas and Michael Raelert

Grenchen, March 1, 2011

The Swiss bike manufacturer BMC is making a striking debut in the sport of triathlon. Effective immediately, Andreas and Michael Raelert are on sponsorship board at BMC. The two Rostockborn athletes are considered the most promising candidates for victory at the most famous endurance sporting event in the world, the Ironman in Hawaii. Andreas Raelert, runner-up at the race in 2010, impressively won the European Championship at the 2010 Frankfurt Ironman, setting a new record on the bike leg. His younger brother Michael remains unbeaten since winning the 2009 World Championship at the Ironman 70.3 distance. After his victorious appearance at the 2010 European 70.3 Championship in Wiesbaden, he went on to defend his World Champion title the same year. In doing so, he became the first-ever two-time World Champion in the history of the Ironman 70.3 event. Recently, Michael Raelert was chosen to become the first non-American best endurance athlete in the United States.

The bike sponsorship with the German brothers marks the start of a strong commitment in the global sport of triathlon for BMC. The great potential of the Raelert Brothers brand was crucial for our long-term, three-year partnership. The pair found a dream partner with excellent products in BMC. “Right from the beginning, the achievement of shared goals really went without saying", describes Mike Hürlimann, CEO of BMC, the negotiations. "We are convinced that we can offer Andreas and Michael critical support in the development of their dominance in the triathlon with our legendary timemachine. We will also work very closely with one another on further developments in the specific product range for triathlon", added Hürlimann.

The biggest goal of Andreas and Michael Raelert remains their first race together at the ironman distance: the showdown on Hawaii in 2011. "One day we will even run together, never against each other, and cross the finish line in Hawaii hand in hand. That is our biggest dream; it's what we live for", is how Michael Raelert once accurately described the passion they share for their sport. But the mutual goal does not only comprise the purely athletic side. Even in their marketing, the athletes from Rostock will embark on new and thus shared paths in future and from now on are positioning themselves as the global brand Raelert Brothers – Passion for Triathlon, which is synonymous with their virtues and genuinely expresses their passion for the sport. "With the premium Swiss brand BMC, we have found the ideal partner who not only stands by us in the athletic field, but also as our independent Raelert Brothers brand in order to achieve our goals together", stated Andreas Raelert when describing the decisive motivations for the future cooperation. "The proverbial Swiss Precision of defining goals and then consistently pursuing them is what convinced us on this matter," continued the Hawaii runner-up from 2010.

"The triathlon is a constantly growing market around the world in which we see great potential for ourselves. If BMC makes this kind of commitment, this occurs over the long-term and with decisive pervasiveness. Andreas and Michael are a perfect match for us. The intensity and seriousness as well as their truly natural air in combination with their social involvement for the sport also complement our image very well", stated Frank Schreiner, Head of Marketing at BMC. "As in road racing and mountain biking, BMC is not just concerned with working with the best, but also with forming a healthy foundation. We therefore establish our commitment on a broad basis: In addition to Andreas and Michael, we were also able to obtain the top Swiss athletes from the ewz power team, Ronnie Schildknecht, Stefan Riesen and Sven Riederer for BMC; Patrick Wallimann, Julien Loy from France and Jenny Fletcher from the USA perfectly round off the team internationally", according to Schreiner.

BMC Trading AG of Grenchen, Switzerland and Outdoor Gear Canada (OGC) of Montréal, have signed a multi-year agreement making OGC the exclusive Canadian distributor of BMC bikes effective September 1, 2010.

Since its acquisition by Swiss businessman, Andy Rihs, in 2001, BMC has become one of the cycling world's leading technology and race-driven bike brands. ''I've seen professionalism and passion in everyone I've met at their company. We are very excited to be embarking on this new venture with OGC.''

''With the addition of Intense Cycles several months, ago, we now offer two world-class bike brands in addition to our own very successful and growing Opus program. We firmly believe that success in our industry, whether you are a supplier or a retailer, requires category-leading, high-value brands and products.
